Epilogue

Epolouge was created when i was discussing my childhood sexual abuse in therapy. When the abuse was discovered, my mom told me to not talk about what had happened to me because “We don’t air our dirty laundry.” For years I was silent and alone as the horrors that had happened festered inside of me, my only outlet was journaling and drawing the feelings and experiences that i was not allowed to talk about. Through the therapy process, I was able to finally tell my story and unlearn my silence.

The idea of telling my story using the art and documents that I had already written over the past ten years as a form of validation and confirmation that the pain and abuse existed was very important to me. I developed the idea of traveling to areas that were part of my abuse and journey to healing and display the pages there. As a nod to the concept of airing laundry, I used clothes pins and twine string to display the pages and allow them to be bleached and cleansed by the desert sun.
